what is the Self-esteem

People strive to feel good about themselves, or seek to maintain their self-esteem, and this is a fundamental human nature. What is indeed the Self-Esteem? Is it a cognitive processing or an affective processing? An evaluation of one’s own goodness or worth, or how people are perceived and evaluated by others?  We use both the electrophysiological and the neuroimaging technologies to investigate the neural activities in response to self-esteem.

what is the function of self-esteem

It is the uniquely human capacity to be self-aware and to know that all living things including humans will ultimately not exist. Increased self-awareness may contribute to concerns about mortality by facilitating the realization of the inevitability of death. Self-esteem has been regarded as a buffer against both the anxiety and deeply-rooted fear of death. We are trying to explore the mortality salience effect on people’s self-relevant processing and the modulating effect of self-esteem using the electrophysiological technology.

Psychosocial stress

Psychosocial stress has been defined as a state of threatened homeostasis by the psychosocial threat. Recently studies have investigated the cross-country differences in stress response, however, we are interested in investigating the culture differences in psychosocial stress and suggested that both the cultural context and people’ self-construal would affect their stress response.
